Thats all for this week. Join the Inner Circle to see Matt’s video report on Castle Assault – 23mins of interviews with players about how his dwarf army performed over the weekend.

Hey, coolest episode in a while I thought fun, entertaining, and some interesting warhammer related topics too.. Mr Gibb was a great guest.
Shame the conclusion you drew about dwarfs, I’ve tried messing around with them in the past too, love the idea of more combaty msu dwarfs but never got it to combine those to essential elements of being effective, and fun. Had hoped some better players might have had a different experiance… oh well…
If I recall correctly though looks like theres at least one army of ‘em going to the masters…
Hey guys
great episode, as I listen to more of these, the differences between AUS and US scenes is becoming more apparent. I’d love to read some details on how your tournament scoring works. specifically your comp and tier system. from the way you talk about it sounds like you guys use it as a built in handicap?
I really like the fact that comp always seems to be a factor in your games and discussions. Over here “comp” is dirty word for many players and hosting a tournament with comp scoring guarantees you’ll get 30-40% less players signing up that one that has no comp. All official GW tourneys here are “No Comp”.
I think part of the problem over here is no one (including GW) could agree on a “standard” so the easy default became no comp at all. Indy GT’s are smaller local tourneys are the only place you see any kind of composition -The biggest and best Indy tourney in the US, (Adepticon) does use Comp and its the one most of the older players look forward to every year, I am pretty sure its the only event in the official sanctioned play circuit that does use Composition scoring.
Given the general “No Comp” attitude of here in the USA we are of course we are seeing Daemons ,VC, and Dark Elves totally dominating (slaughtering) this years tourneys, There the rare exceptions where skilled generals pull out high scores with lesser armies but overall I think lack of comp in lieu of the new books is causing armies with older books to show up less and less which sucks.
Dwarfs are rare these days and when they do show up is almost guaranteed to be a Thorek/Anvil Gunline.
Anyways I love to read/ or hear about how you guys do it- maybe a whole episode about Comp!.
Keep up the good (and entertaining) work!
@ John,
Thanks for the comments. We actually talked about comp quite abit in the latest Inner Circle Episode.
I chatted with Kendall for about an hour, we discuss comp for a good 15mins.
There is also a series of comp related discussions in the bonus interviews we did at the Pilgramage tournament.
As mentioned in the show something to automaticlly move/delete e-mails from people who send them from iPhone’s – at least with the line “Sent From My iPhone”.
try this rule:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
with Sent From My iPhone in the body
move it to the Wankers folder
Great show, I love Drawfs, their my first army and want to bring them out again sometime as I just got back in to WHF and starting a Bretonnian army. Would like to hear some comments about Bretonnian army setups/review. Or point me towards a preious episode about them?
I agree with the bolt throwers been one of the best warmachines for the drawfs, a gyrocopter is great to have when you just slide your whole army forward 6 inches.
Keep it up
Edward
Finally! podcast talking about the dwarfs! should be a good listen, then.
Right, so dwarfs are too slow, inflexible, and to even have a good chance at a tournament I’d need to cheese out my list and cop bad comp scores from every nut-monkey because they just want a 20-0 win in under 45 minutes…
I think I’ll sell off the dwarfs and buy more marines.
Dwarves are better suited for games with different rules from WHFB. They are built around their fluff… they are great in wars of attrition. They would also be great fighting in the narrow corridors of their strongholds. This translates horribly to the actual game of WHFB where you play on a 6×4 table.
I think slayers will make a comeback next book.. with ward saves and killing blow against all targets…
Great episode! I think it’s good to go back to some of the older lists and reconsider them with the new books out. I hope you do this for a few other armies. I’d love to hear you talk about Orcs and Goblins against the new lists. I had thought that the latest book was quite balanced and I was pretty happy with my book until the Power Creep started to happen. It would be good to hear you guys chat about greenskins and even how the comp scoring affects people playing them.
Mmmm, disappointed on the dwarf content. Having played them all year they are a lot more flexible then given credit for, its just people don’t like to look behind the gunline. Havn’t heard any mention of the stollaz rune yet and 1/2 way through.
Should have gotten Luke up in qld to talk, someone who has played a long time and tried many different builds.
Very good dwarfcast, some interesting points made. Only a few bits wrong on the dwarf rules :lord on shield cant have 0+ armour, thanes arent strength 5 basic etc etc
Fantastic episode. Steve Gibb’s a legend!
Hey Guys
Good episode. But for the record, while I’m not sure who played 2 Banshees first, I know I’m twice as big as Steve, if not more
For Steve – you need to get your facts right. I didn’t comp hit you a point for fielding Vampires that I thought I couldn’t defeat. I accept that my Khorne heavy list has concessions (weaker against shooting and magic). I comp hit you, as I said at time of the comp, because you had over 1000+pts of characters, less than approx 500pts core, about 8 casting dice and a few bound items and little if any banners (granted you fielded mainly ghouls). So my comp hit on you was and WILL ALWAYS be based on my opinion of your army not how well I think I will do against it. I would comp hit it every time in its current format, regardless of what I play. At least you know you will be able to beat me everytime b/c in its current form my Khorne army has a big anti-magic weakness
