This is the list we talked about on episode 26. I already have some thoughts on what I change but I would love to get some imput from others.

Ye I like it mate, good tough variant to the usual stank/walter build. From a comp PoV I would be happy with it to. No warrior priest as the 4th character (you have the BSB instead who isnt carrying the doomfire ring…), 1 Cannon and no stank.
Only thing I would say is from my xp with empire is two cannons are better than 1!
D
I’m an empire player and I have a completely different view on the empire army. In my army the infantry (and waraltar) wins the game and the rest of the army is just there to protect the infantry. So the role of the shooting is mainly to kill any big and fast units that my infantry can’t deal with (cannons and helblasters are best against monsters and outriders are good against cav and things). The knights (I only use small units) can charge skirmishers, missile units or generally be in the way and tie up more dangerous units (they can also charge flanks later in the game). I don’t use any static missile units (corssbows and handgunners) as they just don’t do it for me and would never dream of having only one block.
In your list I would shave off some of the frills, like sword of sigismund (you won’t do much with two attack anyway and in challenges the enemy won’t hurt you, the waralter and guy on top is ridicusly hard to kill), some of the shooting units (give the blocks the archer screens, maybe keep one unit on a flank), a few flaggelants (they’re better at 7 wide anyway to get more attacks in) and the giant to get another block with detachments. On detahcments I don’t understand your unit size. I would either go 3*3 to get a tight unit that can countercharge efficiently (swordsmen ore best for this) or 5*2 to get a unit that can fight a bit on it’s own.
I would also upgrade your mages a bit more, give both lvl 2 and add a wizard staff and maybe a ring of volans in there. Musicians on the knights and outriders are never wrong either. If you have the points I would also have a helblaster to deal with big scary things (like his taurus).
Lastly I would just want to say cheers from Sweden and thank you for a great show.
I want to know why you wouldnt put karl Franz in there on the Griffon? I think hes a steal for his points especially because Hes pretty much invincible for a turn. And thats the turn when you win….
Or is that cheesy
Thinks its more he probably wont get to use Karl Franz at any tournaments.
D
ok, i dislike inner circle, they are scary but a little meh for the points, a unit of 5 vanilla (nilla) knights in the flank will turn most combats.
they are a steal for 123pts for 5 guys and a muso.
may make the other wizard lvl 2 since u have the bounds from the altar and another lvl2 leaving him at lvl1 is kinda a waste of points as u might as well get a warrior priest.
get more blocks of swordsmen, 23 with FC (assuming a mounted character will be there) is awesome for 163pts.
for combat detachments, 3×3 free company are my unit of choice or same formation but swordsmen.
shooting detachments should be 5, unless u have more points at the end. also i find a mix of shooting can be very effective, try to fit in some handgunners as detachments, just to threatern heavy cav. archers im guessing are used to screen the flagallents.
outriders and pistoleers are great.
now rare choices, dont like the giant becuase u dont have enough blocks of infantry, drop him.
flaggellents, make them bigger 20 or 25 or go 7×3 and use 21. 15 are a little small and will die very fast and tbh as ur only other mainline unit that sucks.
basically more infantry and less giant and inner circle =P
consider a helblaster they are wicked for making flanking units think twice before charging.
did i mention more infantry and bigger blocks =P
Check warhammer-empire.com for great Empire ideas/tips/tactics.
Take two cannons. One will miss, two will mean you most likely will hit what you aimed at.
Infantry and detachments. Big units of swordsmen, they have the best hth save, take detachments of Free Company in 3×3 seems to be the favourite. As it takes up less room and 3 men give 6 attacks. Remember you will win Empire combats by having 3 ranks, flanking with detachments, outnumber and command.
Dont get a giant. Either take a helblaster or two Rocket batteries. Again you take two as invariably one blows up/misses etc.
The best Empire choices are your specials. Cannons, pistoliers and outriders. Outriders with the 360 degree fire arc, take up minimal frontage and shoot a lot with a better ballistic skill.
Wouldnt worry about detachments with your crossbow men.
Get musicians with the knights and outriders. Empire ‘vanilla’ knights with a muso are great value. Their main advantage is the +1 save. They are not death machines but they are hard to kill and for flanking or drawing the enemy off, so you can hit them with your infantry blocks.
a very well rounded force, but perhaps you could add some more flavour?? A Steam tank or a helblaster maybe? Griffon?
Sowrdsman fit as the Immortals, giant as the Northern Barbarian, but where’s the several thousand archers and the Rhino and elephants?

LOL
Nice work Jeff, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating so get some more friendly games under your belt and see what works for you.
Remeber the 300 movie is only a theme. Merely a guide to help inspire my painting/converting. I won’t be sticking to the movie %100. I will still take the army I want to use.
However, if you must know, I plan on using an Elephant as my giant and a rhino as a steam tank!!
(I even have the toy rhino ready to be armoured up)
I was only kidding mate, The spartan army im planning will have some cavalry and some archers, but i do like the idea of a Rhino as a Steam tank. Awesome. If Mat can use angels and cherubs for Gnoblars, why not.
Look forward to more pics.
jeff, u will get some dirty looks for using a Waltar and a steam tank and a gaint, although i guess u dont mean to use them all together, there are some potential comp hits right there.
JEFF, THIS LIST IS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE YOU WILL NEVER WIN A TOURNY WITH AN ARMY LIKE THIS!!! Just messin with you man, it’s not that bad at all, just needs some fine-tuning is all. First I don’t think you have enough big blocks of infantry. I would suggest losing the Inner-Circle Knights and replacing them with a another block of Swordsmen with a Combat Detachment. This brings me to another related point, which is your Combat Detachments should be 9×9. I also don’t like how your Flaggelants are 15 strong (5×3 formation I’m assuming) they should be at least 6 or 7 wide to take advantage of the extra attacks and being unbreakable they don’t have to worry about ranks so you might get away with only two ranks. Now I saved what I feel the most contentious issue for last: taking a giant. My first thought when I saw that was that I would automatically dock you a comp. point or two just for taking it. I feel people shouldn’t be using Dogs of War (unless of coarse you are actually running a Dogs of War army) without suffering comp. hits as I find it kinda cheezy. Upon reading further down the comments section and understanting how you plan to model it, I thought brilliant! I’m a big converter/customizer and I think you should go ahead with it. Not only that I would also use the Rhino convertion idea as I think the coolness of your effort in converting will overshadow the negative vibe about taking those two particular units. I would still give you a comp. hit but only one point, say out of a 5 point scoring system. That is of coarse if I was to play you, listened to your podcast and found out that you were only modelling the Steamtank and Giant like that only so you wouldn’t get a comp. hit! Then you’d get a major comp. hit from me! Just make sure you never mention anything like that before tournamnents on your podcasts, and good luck on building cheezy lists that could fly under the radar
Woops, concerning the Combat Detachments on the above post, I meant they should be 3×3 (total of 9 men) not 9×9 as that would be pretty crazy and illegal of coarse!
