Episode 6 coming soon -Listener Feedback show

questionmark.jpg

I will be recording episode 6 this weekend. Because I didn’t get time to answer some of the many emails I received on the last show, episode 6 will be dedicated to answering your questions.

If you have a  question or a comment send them to podhammer@gmail.com in either written or audio form, and I will address them on the show. (MP3 recording will guarantee your question gets played).

I have a good knowledge of most armies however if its a question about an army I don’t usually play with or against I will get input from some of the veteran tournament players I know so I can give you the best advice available.

Hamish and Andy…..and Jeff!

hamishandandy1.jpg

Not quite Warhammer related but I thought this was preety cool. I had the oppurtunity to chat with Australian afternoon radio hosts and TV celebrities Hamish and Andy as part of some promotional work for my day job. International listeners won’t know who these guys are. But if you live in Australia you have probably seen them or heard them at some point.

I chatted for about 10mins with the guys over drinks they were very funny and more than happy to get to know some their fans.

If you havent heard there radio show you can tune in in most capital cities from 4pm til 6pm or if you are a podcaster like me you can download the podcast at www.hamishandandy.com.au

Just got my new RODE PODCASTER mic in the mail and its AWESOME! I can’t wait to start recording the next show.

Podhammer wants you!

uncle_sam.jpg

Are you attending a warhammer tournament or Games Day? Podhammer wants correspondents to contribute to the show with interviews, reviews or anything else you feel like talking about.

All you need is an MP3 player with a mic and your good to go!

I am also looking for guest hosts for future episodes. The shows can be recorded through Skype and it doesnt cost a thing! Please bear in mind however I live in Australia and my timezone is +10GMT and I usually record in the evenings.

So if any of this appeals to you send me an email at podhammer@gmail.com and we can discuss the next step.

The trouble with magic.

necro1.jpg

For a change last week I decided to drag out my old beastmen army for a game. I totally redesigned my army with a focus on many small herds backed up by chariots and alot of magic (Lvl 4, 2x Lvl 2s; i.e. 10 power dice). The game reminded me why I dont like using too much magic in any kind of army.

First off the spells you get are completely random, so if you are planning some particular tactic based on getting a certain spell, you better have a back up plan. Even if you don’t want a specific spell, you often end up with something completely useless. This wasn’t a major problem in 6th ed. because you could give the power dice over to one of your other casters. However these days you can end up with a few dice left over and nothing worth casting.

The second issue I have with magic is one bad miscast at the wrong time can completely neutralise any plan you put in place. Yes this is true with every aspect of the game but no more so than in the magic phase. A miscast has the added flow on effect of that the scroll your opponent was going to use this turn to stop that game winning spell can be used in the next turn neutralizing yet another magic phase.

These elements make magic in my opinion just too risky relative the reward. Not to mention the points investment needed to provide an effective magic phase.

What do you think about magic, is the risk worth it? do you enjoy the randomness of this part of the game?

Who the hell is Tom?

I just jumped on the bandwagon that is MYSPACE and created a Podhammer page. Its not my bag but I’ll do anything to promote the show. If you are into that kind of thing add me to your freinds and I’ll do the same.

Listener Feedback:

Thanks to all who sent in emails.

Special thanks to Jhadyen from Asur.org

for his concise list of all the details of the 7th ed. High Elves

-Intrigue at Court is gone.

-All High Elves always strike first at all times, regardless of the
weapon they’re wielding.

-All High Elves reroll any failed psychology test when fighting
against Dark Elves.

-Dragon Mages are standard mages with 2 attacks, access to only the
lore of fire and may always choose Flaming Sword of Rhuine instead of
Fireball. They ride (and always ride) a Sun Dragon (the weakest of the
three dragons available to High Elves)

-All heroes with the exception of the Archmages have had their points
increased. Also, Archmages have the option of riding Sun or Moon
dragons, while Princes have the option of riding any of the three
Dragon types. (Sun, Moon, Star)

-Core Choices are restricted to Spearmen (which have been lowered to 9
points), Archers (which have been reduced to 11 points) and Lother
Seaguard (which have been reduced to 12 points. 13 points if you take
the shield)
In addition, all of the core Command models have been reduced to a
10/10/5 point cost.

-Archers do NOT shoot in 2 ranks, however, all units with Spears DO
attack in 3 ranks from the front arc.

-Swordmasters, Phoenix Guard, White Lions of Chrace are all Special,
and each cost 15 points per model (with command costing 12/12/6).
Swordmasters gain an additional attack, Phoenix Guard gain a 4+ ward
save and White Lions gain Stubborn and Heavy Armor (giving them a 3+
save against shooting). They retain all of their previous stats and
abilities as well.
In addition, Dragon Princes (30 points per model) gain an additional
attack but lose their Ithilmar Barding.

-Silver Helms maintain their 2+ armor save and their point cost.
However, they gain no special rules with the exception of always
attacking first. Also, they are the only unit in the army not capable
of taking a magic banner.

-Ellyrian Reavers have had their points reduced greatly, making them
viable in most games. (21 points for spears and bows, 19 points for
just bows, 17 points for just spears)

-Shadow Warriors have had their points increased by 1, but their
Shadow Walker champion has had his points reduced to 12. They have the
exact same stats and special abilities as they have had in 6th
edition.

-Lion Chariots cause fear, have a 4+ armor save, and on the charge
deal 6 strength 5 attacks (4 from the lions, 2 from the white lions
driving them), this is all after impact hits. They cost 140 points per
model.

-Many new items have been introduced to the book, including the Star
Lance (+3 strength on the charge, as well as negating armor saves),
Armor of Caledor (2+ Armor save), Banner of Arcane Protection (2 Magic
Resist), The Trickster’s Pendant (Whenever your enemy miscasts he
rolls twice; the High Elf player chooses the result), The Skeinsliver
(allows the player to add +1 to the roll to determine which player
takes the first turn), Talisman of Loec (one use only; bearer rerolls
all failed rolls to hit and wound. In addition, the target rerolls all
successful saves of any kind. In the end however, the user takes an
unpreventable wound).

-All of the Honors have been removed, however many of them have been
reintroduced as magical items. Seer honor has been turned into an
arcane item, Swordmaster Honor has been turned into a 2 handed magical
sword, Loremaster has been replaced by the Radiant Gem of Hoeth (which
does not allow you to wear armor while casting spells). The Honors
which did not make it into the list are Lionguard, Channeller, and
Pure of Heart.
